History

History

1828 - The Cornell Family begins their business in Long Island City, NY.

1854 - John Black Cornell patents a method for joining metal slats for revolving shutters for store windows.

1862 - The Cornell Family Company provides gun turrets and spare parts for Miantonomoh which was a Monitor class warship used in the Civil War.

1898 – The Cornell Family Company provides 8,000 tons of structural steel work for Park Row Building in New York City. At the time, this building was the tallest building in the world.

1931 - The Cornell Family Company introduces the metal security grille or mall grille to the United States market.

1964 - As shopping malls were being built in every open field across the USA, Jack Cornell (“Uncle Jack” as he wanted everyone to call him) creates the National Account Department providing a one person contact for national clients to coordinate their door needs throughout the USA.

1991 – Keen Cornell transforms the National Account Department into Cornell Storefront Systems.  Management of Cornell Storefront introduces National Door Service on a 24/7/365 basis.

1998 – Cornell Storefront Systems becomes an independent company (still managed by a Cornell Family member) and expands its product offering to include sectional, hollow metal and glass doors.

2008 – The Cornell Family purchases Cookson Door to become the largest rolling steel door company in the USA.
